Grief and Older People

Last Updated: 18-Feb-2009

Whilst the process of aging may reflect a time of great achievement, satisfaction and excitement for many, it is not uncommon for some older people to feel isolated and concerned about some aspects of their lives - past, present and future. For some, experiences of family isolation, social withdrawal, decline in health, role and status, death of partner, family members and friends creates a great sense of loss and grief.

Personal stories are a valuable source of information and reassurance. They present first-hand accounts of the day to day challenges others have faced, and give insights into the coping strategies they have used.

These video clips increase understanding of the grief and loss experienced by older people and raise awareness of the unique issues and needs of older people in our community.
