Schizophrenia

Last Updated: 05-Feb-2009

Schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses interfere with the ability to think, act and feel. When acutely ill, a person may lose contact with reality. The symptoms are often very distressing for people affected and those who care for them.

While there is no cure for Schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses, they are treatable. With early diagnosis and effective treatment and support, those affected are able to get back on with their lives in the community.

Personal stories are a valuable source of information and reassurance. They present first-hand accounts of the day to day challenges others have faced, and give insights into the coping strategies they have used.
