NEW Families and Eating Disorders title

22 Jul 09

An eating disorder is a serious mental illness, where eating and body weight or shape become an unhealthy focus of someone's life.  These disorders can destroy a person's quality of life and undermine family relationships.

Eating disorders can affect anyone in any age group, from childhood to mature-aged people. They tend to affect more women than men, and are most common in young women in their adolescence.

This Speaking from Experience DVD offers first-hand accounts from nine people living with an eating disorder in the family. They discuss the impact the eating disorder has had on their lives, how they manage the illness and the type of support provided.
